T-Mobile G1 still getting updates

// August 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Google Android Phones

t-mobile-g1.t-manAs many have rumored, the T-Mobile Google Android G1 is not out of the race, that is the race for updates, T-Mobile has decided to let the T-Mobile Google Android G1 Phone recieve the future updates from Google, the updates soon to be release include, Donut (1.6) and Eclair (2.0), these updates give major changes to Android Phones as did Cupcake (1.5), so there is really no reason that the G1 should be left out of the loop.

But Thank You T-Mobile For Allowing Us To Keep Having Updates From You.

The Google Android question?

// August 6th, 2009 // No Comments » // Google Android Phones

android-renderedOne of the questions that’s on the minds of Android users everywhere. Is which device to choose? well that all depends on what you want to do with the device. The top devices running android right now would be the T-mobile Google Android G1, HTC  Hero, and T-Mobile Google Android My Touch 3g. Well for beginners if want a device that does a lot then one of the mentioned devices above will suit you very well. And if you want to go all out then you can go with T-mobile Google Android G1. Due to the ability to achieve root access on the device. And perform things like apps 2 SD and run Linux type commands and a sleuth of cool apps. but like i always said its really up to end user on what they want the device to do. So look out Apple. Google is around the corner ready to race and take the lead. Being all that said Android is the wave of the future. So get on board and enjoy the ride.

Undecided on Google Android ?

So what’s the hype with Google Android? So you’re still stuck on your Windows Mobile phone or your iPhone and you want to make a switch but you’re still not really sure? I remember the first time I touched an HTC Google Android G1 it just didn’t pay the phone any justice. This Google Android powered phone is a personal device and all-google-android-mini-2each person customizes the Android phone to them. So unless the phone is yours, you just won’t feel the full effect of this fairly new operating system for your mobile device.
Not to worry. There is a way for you to test run the Android operating system before you decide if you want to make the switch. Like a lot of Linux distribution, Google Android has a live version of the OS. If you’re not familiar with what a live version is I will explain. A lot of Linux distribution has the option of running an OS direct from a CD/DVD. Same goes for android.
Although Android is a mobile OS, it has a live CD version that you can run direct from your desktop or laptop. Cool huh? You can even run it from your virtual machine and give it the test ride it deserves. Although not a useful OS for a computer, the live PC version of this OS is a great way for you to play with the OS without having to dish out the cash just to see if you would like it or not. And for the tech geeks, do it just because you can. The very same reason why we run Linux Debian on our G1s. Because we can.
Here is the link for the live Android distribution. Enjoy and screen shot your giant G1.

To netbook or not to netbook

How insane! It was just yesterday that I was carrying around my laptop size portable email machine that had to hook to dial up to get my email. I don’t even remember what it was called but the darn thing was huge for the one thing that it did. But back then, I was using a Motorola Star Tac and this email thing…whatever it was. You couldn’ t get anymore high tech than I was.
So I just purchased myself a netbook. I bought an Acer Aspire One with a 10.1” screen and a real hard drive loaded with Win XP. At first, I had my doubts. Can this little portable thing really do anything? I mean, who runs anything below 2 ghz anymore?
So the Aspire One runs on a 1.6 ghz Intel Atom with 1 gb of ram. When I first got this thing, I thought to myself, “I travel a lot, let’s get this thing”! But I had my doubts. Anything loaded with a full OS should be able to perform everything that it was designed for.
My first week goes around with this thing. I hated it! It was slow. It lagged a lot! And the thing was just a piece of junk. I thought to myself that I just wasted my money. OMG what did I just do? I couldn’t do anything with this little thing. It came preloaded with Microsoft Office but it lagged so much that it wasn’t even worth it. I hated myself for once for making such a horrible consumer decision.
So I decided to go real laptop shopping. When I arrived in Atlanta, I went to a Micro Center to search for laptops. I explained to the, surprisingly knowledgeable sales guy, my situation. I hated my netbook and I want a notebook.
The sales guy explained to me that all netbooks are like that because of the preloaded Mcafee anti-virus. Duh! It takes up all the resources of the netbook. It only has 1 gb of ram! So my ignorance was my downfall. I forgot what it is like to run a system with only 1 gb of ram. The guy at Micro Center didn’t even want to sell me on a new laptop. He just told me to remove the anti-virus software and install ESET (my favorite anyways).
ESET is a very effective anti-virus that does not take up a lot of resources.
So I took his advice and removed the Mcafee and installed the ESET. The Aspire One is like a rocket. This little netbook of mine is now on fire! I guess I’m getting old and not thinking about all the trouble shooting options and falling behind on my technology. I don’t know, But for $300, this thing is all worth it and more for the student, net surfer, or the traveler. I tether with my G1 and I can go anywhere and get great connection to the internet and work on my doctorates in psychology.
Don’t get me wrong. Don’t play Call of Duty on this thing. Aside from gaming, this little thing is fully capable of completing any task that you throw at it. I will be upgrading the ram and I can say with complete confidence that I made a great purchase. If you are on a budget or need a light traveler, a netbook is a great way to go.
I can even install Mac OSX on this thing!
